Keyless Entry - A Matter Of Trust

Featured Replies

I have had my Titanium X auto for only 3 weeks and new to Fiestas. I contacted the Dealer regarding the apparent inconsistent behaviour of the tailgate when locking the car as I initially thought there was a fault. They told me that there was no fault and explained the behaviour as follows:-

When the car is locked (whether by the remote or keyless entry) both doors and tailgate are locked. Provided you do not press the door button you can verify that all the doors are locked by trying the door handles. However, if you have your key in your pocket the tailgate can be opened. If you place the key away from the car the tailgate is then found to be locked.

I have verified that the tailgate locking works as described though it is a little inconvenient if you simply want to double check that your shopping is secure. One has to check that the indicators flash twice on locking and accept on trust that the tailgate is also secure.

Sorry about repeat submissions. Could someone clear the duplicates?

This is correct.... I thought the same when I got my titanium, but rest assured its all good.

Tks for that. The dealer had many similar instances before. At least I did not have the hassle of leaving the car with the garage.

To verify mine is locked, the power fold mirrors fold inwards, I did have OCD before driving the Fiesta.

Dave,

Tks. That`s even simpler.

I picked up my fiesta st 2 yesterday and ive got to admit I'm a bit disappointed in the keyless entry. I thought it was going to more like my friends new megane where it unlocks the car as you place your hand around the handle, not still having to push a button of some sort somewhere.

They use handle sensors on the Focus, but buttons on the Fiesta.

I actually prefer the Fiesta button having had both.

The sensor can be a bit temperamental and I have to leave my keys indoors when I wash the car or it keeps locking and unlocking.

Many thanks for putting this information online. I have just got a titanium x fiesta and was going to take it to the dealership tomorrow as the boot wouldn't lock! Mystery solved!

I love the keyless entry on the Fiesta as I am in and out of the boot all day so being able to just open the boot without unlocking the whole car is greatits quick and easy.

I was however a bit concerned the the OP when I first got the car as I leave the keys in my Lounge which is very close to the car (1.5m) and had to do some testing to ensure that the keys could not be in a place where the car could be unlocked, but as mentioned you have to have the keys in your pocket for the car to unlock so all was well.

  • 3 weeks later...

Because the fiesta has no button on the boot handle like in the old shape(2009) focus it has a sensor in the boot which senses the presence of the key making the boot only unlocked and the remaining doors locked and when you move away at least 10ft the whole car is locked again

2013 Titanium owner here too, and i'll second what Mike77 has said - all is good.

Keyless is quite clever. It only let's you unlock the door that nearest the key. So when your standing by the drivers door your passenger can't open there door or the boot until you press the button.
