Private Reg Transfer Time.

Featured Replies

Hiya all, still new here. Got myself a Ford C-Max, only the Zetec model but wanted it to save on fuel/tax etc... Rather than spec inside.

Anyway, question. The ford farage I used has (hopefully) sent of my private registration docs to put it on retention or swap it over to my new ford.

I know they'll be busy this time of year with new reg's going through but anyone have an idea of how long this takes?.

Also is there a time limit a ref can be off a car (whilst going through above process) before it is lost & not mine anymore ?.

Had reg over 15 years so don't want to lose it because of a dealership !Removed! up.

Thanks in advance.

I think it tends to be within six weeks, but I would expect a little longer due to new tax rules and the DVLA can barely run a bath, let alone an agency. If it isn't done within six weeks I would attempt to contact them.

Sent from my Gen 1 WAP phone

4 months ago it took 15 days to transfer my plate off my old car and onto my focus and the time before that 21 days.

As said new tax rules etc could be 3-6 weeks is my guess .... :D :D :driving: :driving:

I work in an area that deal with these occasonally and as far as i'm aware it is taking around 4-6 weeks

The plate is yours you could keep it on retention for as long as you like. I'd give it 4 weeks then chase the garage if they say they have sent it all off best give DVLA a buzz. I have number at work so if you need it at any point give a pm.

Does anyone know under the new tax rules now (specifically the bit about not being able to carry over tax) how this affects private plates ?

I've just taxed my car for 12 months on its standard plate but am looking to but myself a private plate for xmas ... am I going to have to retax my car again ?

Not sure about the tax rules. Got my retention document back today. So the garage came good & paid to retain my plate. I now just need to fill in and return with my details to get the plate on my new cmax. Nearly there...
