Cheapest Price To Pick Up A Car?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

So I was talking to the wife yesterday and I think I have started to convince her of the idea to learn to drive :D one step forward!

However... We cant afford driving lessons at their current rate, and to be honest I need to give her a chance to see if she wants to pick it up. So, I will be waiting till shes a bit more convinced she wants to do it, then I will probably get her a driving license and of course an absolute shed of a car! (Would you really trust your other half whos never touched a steering wheel with your pride and joy? :p)

So I am looking for something as a starter car, one that if she accidentally parked it in a vauxhall and destroyed it, I could just walk away laughing :p

What do you think the cheapest price of this would be? I was looking on ebay and found some bid cars, like an R reg micra for £51! :D something like that would be ideal :p

Realistically, what would you expect to pay for something like this? I literally want to get her 4 wheels and a steering wheel with an MOT. I dont care about the rest of it, once I trust she wont destroy Mindel I can let her drive a REAL car :p

If anyone happens to see anything of this nature around the Kent area for absolute bargain price of less than £100 please let me know!

Ebay or car auctions

I picked a fiesta up a few months ago for £190, lets just say it needed a lot of work. Don't get an old Ford :p Corsas aren't bad for rust :D

Haha, cheers guys. Yeah I need to buy something cheap but not false economy. Don't want 200 for t he car and 300 for repairs...

You could get her a C***a then let her loose on roads so she can smash it into another one that would be like a double whammy haha

Oh and you could make some cash back selling all the Richbrook products on eBay afterwards

I'll sell you a Corsa c 1.2 for 200? Got test but not tax, not that you can transfer tax now, runs fine but usual tapping. Not clean but dent free.

Dents don't bother me lol but being a corsa does let's just say neither my wife or I would drive one...lol

I've bought quite a few cars for well under a grand now....you do have to expect minor repairs at that price though! Tax is also a bit annoying being non-transferable now, you'll probably be looking at over £100 just to stick 6 months tax on a cheap car. I'd say £500 should get you something reasonable with MOT...plenty of Corsa's about as above lol. If she can drive something bigger, bigger cars like Mk1 Mondeo's etc tend to be cheaper than small cars of the same age, but insurance and fuel costs may be an issue there.

Not sure what your thoughts are on them, but I've bought about 15 Peugeot 306s, varying engines, trim levels and even a few estates lol. 306 HDi can be had for well under a grand these days...

Cheers Tom, yeah must admit I thought about getting her a family car size to learn in, I would be less nervous her getting behind mindel from a mk1 mondy size rather than pug or cheap fiat lol

James, you would be better off paying for a few starter lessons for her first to see if she 'takes' to it, instead of paying out £200 for a car, £??? For insurance, £100 tax etc..... for her to lose interest and you have to sell up.

True point ade, might have to research and see what the going rate is... Maybe as you say if she takes to it, chuck her on a rust bucket afterwards lol

Not a bad little car lol although 500 seems a fair price it's more than I would want to pay lol

Well I have thought a bit more and if she goes for it, I will get her license first then take her to a few quiet areas at an industrial estate I know so she can drive mine. I think that would give her a bit if confidence and the roads are much wider so less chance of whacking mindel lol. If she gets on I might just pay out for a few lessons let her sit in with an instructor and see how she feels. If she feels good about it then might get her a car after that and she can have a practice toy. Even if it's dirt cheap just legal tyres and with a few months mot at least we can get her the confidence. I might get her an mot failure even and look at the mot faults just e the cost and repair it. I saw some 03 plates which where couple of hundred but mot failures and Could get her a car she feels safe to carry the kids in. Even if it only lasts a few years if she passed her test until she felt comfortable driving mindel without causing damage to her lol.
