Hello All,

I’m new to the forum, I’m a big Ford fan and used to be a big part of the ukfiestanetwork a few years ago, since the fiesta I then moved
to old skool VW and had myself a lovely mk1 golf gti cabriolet which I actually still have but unfortunately will be up for sale to go towards my new car.

Following on from that I’m now the owner of a 63 reg ford focus zetec s with most of the optional extras, only had the car 5 days and I love
it. Quite shocked actually Ford have really up’d their game as it’s a fantastic car.

So as I mentioned I have quite a good spec zetec s, the previous owner who leased the car from fords company car scheme defo added a few toys.

Car detail:

1.6 tdi manual

18” wheels

Dab

Sat nav

Front and rear parking sensors

Ford sync

Heated and folding mirrorS

Park assist (which is great fun)

Perfect car for me as I now do quite a long commute into work which is a 140 mile round trip so I get the looks and the toys with an eco engine.

My main goal for the near future is to finish spec’ing the car up to the ultimate standard, I’m defo looking at OEM looks.

If any of you have some good suggestions on how and if I can make the below changes then that would really help, I’m looking to do the following:

Add tinted windows so it looks like the privacy glass optional extra, not sure on how dark the tint is but it does seem quite dark. Ill probably go for dark smoke but only in the rear no tints on the front at all.

Upgrading the speakers would be great, the standard ones are ok but I want to change to some quality speakers but no sub so some speakers that can deliver some decent bass would be great. Is this easily done? Does anyone have any details on the size of speakers and if I can just swap the standard speakers for decent ones.

Are there any subtle standard tweaks that can be done with the styling? Also did ford offer a slightly lower option? Just wondering if they had some slightly lower springs as an optional extra that I could add, basically so it’s not going to mess with the warranty.

And then possibly thinking in changing to leather seats, I don’t like standard non sporty seats so was there a zetec s leather seat option or would I have to look at the ST seats? If so do they do ST seats without ST written in them.

So pretty much that’s what I’m looking to do, some help would be great but I’ll be searching the forums anyway.

Please see my pics attached :)

Thanks

Dan

Hi and welcome to FOC.

In response to some of your questions:

  • You could in theory have all the rear glass replaced for tinted but it would cost a fortune, the cheapest option is to have them film tinted.
  • On my Fiesta I upgraded to the Sony premium HU and speakers. The problem with sticking in aftermarket speakers is that the HU isn't set up to drive them.
  • Ford offer an eibach lowering kit as an official accessory, so you could fit those and it would not void the warranty.
  • All MK3 Foci Zetec and higher have sport seats, so you can get some "Windsor" leather optional seats from a Titanium (X).

Hi Alex,

thanks for the response, the tinting film is defo the option i was thinking.

so does the Sony premium headunit come with DAB and sat nav? im sure i had read somewhere that the speakers werent that much of an improvement and the HU had some common faults, is there away to have after market speakers that do work with my current unit?

Ah ok so eibach springs seems like a good call, i take it they lower by 25mm or something like that, ill take a look to see if the ford accessory website has them, i think it would just finish the car off as with the bigger wheels.

ill take a look at the titanium x seats, sounds like a good swap :)

youve pretty much answered all the bits i needed, cheers :)

It might be easier initially just to upgrade the speakers and see how they sound.

The standard speakers are paper, where the "premium" ones are some sort of polymer.

The advantage you have is that they don't have big power requirements and are a straight swap fitment wise. I found them really cheap too, cost me about £80 for all 6/8 speakers in my Fiesta.

ah perfect, and you noticed the difference?

i think i have 6 speakers, where did you get yours from?

I changed the HU and speakers at the same time on my Fiesta so couldn't say.

I think you would only be able to go with 6 speakers on the Focus as the extra tweeters require a separate hole rather than being built on the woofer in the Fiesta.

I got mine from Fordpartsuk, but you need to have an idea of part numbers, or find a car with the speakers you want in them so you can give the parts guys the registration.

The HU came off ebay as it is just too expensive from Ford for that part. As you have Sat Nav it might be a bit more complicated if you wanted to change the HU, so if it was me, I'd only change the speakers initially.
