Mk 2.5 Cig Lighter Socket Power

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Does the cig lighter ever power off in the mk2.5? I want to run a dashcam from it until I get the chance to hardwire it in.

But while I'm sat in the car with the engine off the lighter socket remains powered.

Does it have a delay shut off or is it always on? I'm using the one in the arm rest but I expect both are the same.

Cheers

Tom

Not sure about the others, but on my car, the cig lighter port doesn't get power when the keys are taken out of the car.

Yeah, I will be doing that but may not get the chance for a week or so. Guess I'll just have to keep unplugging it for now then.

I have jus bought a road hawk hd. Same issue. How did you resolve it in the end?

Only way to resolve is keep unplugging it or hard wire into a switched live in the fuse board.

just a word.if you hard wire it in dont strip the power supply down use a ciggy lighter socket on wire.i hard wired mine im havine problems and supplier wants me to send the lot back.but because i cant send power supply back im suck with it

Hi Tom

No on the mk2.5 the 12v sockets have power all the time. I hardwired my dash cam (Mobius) into the car by piggy backing off an ignition live fuse at the fuse box. so end result is when car is switched on cam records automatically and stops around 10seconds when car is switched off.

Good luck with your installation.

Thanks guys, I did test this myself a couple of days ago and should've marked solved.

John, I would've bought another lead to hardwire in which would avoid that issue. I wont be keeping the dashcam in now though, had it there 2 days and it annoys me being in view on the windscreen and I'm fussy about that sort of thing lol.
