Ebay Sand Timer Clock Icon Scam?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Ive been an ebay member since 2007 i use it quite qlot buying and also selling,

Recently sold a ford related item for very little money 9 GBP to be exact.

I only accept PayPal and has worked quite well over the years until now;

Instead of the paid icon appearing on the sold item it displays a sand timer,

Basically its saying the buyer has sent payment via checque through PayPal and they are awaiting its clearance,

However when i check my PayPal account it says the transaction link is invalid,

The item sold three weeks ago,

Still got sand timer icon and no payment,

So i tried to cancel payment but ebay say i owe the buyer a refund although payment was never received???

Sounds like a loop hole in the system to me,

Buyer keeps contacting to request "when will you be sending this item"

Since I've no Paypal record of Payment, this means ive also got no address to send it to weather i recieved payment or not.

I've attempted to explain to the buyer but all i get is the same response over and over:

"when will you be sending this item "

Reported to eBay

And they are automatically processing an unpaid dispute,

Im not frustrated about it as its only 9 quid boot light but its confusing to see how i owe the buyer a refund when i never actually got paid and eBay are invoicing me for a sold item that never sold.

WTF!!

Have you raised this with Paypal? I had this a while ago with a used Burberry reversible jacket I sold on there ( Boss jacket ) first the guy offered me a postal order ( because obviously poor and our taxes are paying for it ) refused it and told him not to bother but then he did that, I contacted Paypal when it was sitting in the account summary but not in my paypal balance and told them I refuse the payment and they did, it never came to me and cancelled the order on ebay, caused me immense grief as was given negative feedback and had 100% since 2008 and over 1000 items sold at the time, but I got it back in the end,

ebay really is killing it for sellers, so are paypal, absolute joke.

Certainly worth noting on the sales summary no cheques or anything, just cold hard paypal cash accepted or sales will not be honoured.

I had a dispute with someone not sending an item worth £8 it went on for a month but PayPal never refunded me so I was forced to go an ring eBay who after a while explaining got my money back.... All good except it cost me over £8 to ring them! I rang them back and the first girl that came on I just f****d her out of it about the whole experience. Better taking it out on her than one of my own family. As I was in one hell of a mood after.

I had to contact Ebay yesterday regarding a similar matter, I spoke to them through the online chat ebay has and they could clearly see that both my ebay and paypal accounts confirmed my problem, within 10 minutes all sorted.

They will see if the funds have cleared as ebay/paypal same thing......

go to the "contact us " Lenny and chat away it will get sorted without doubt !!!!

It sounds like it could be a scam, when you say the buyer keeps asking "when will you be sending this item" over and over. They probably know about some flaw in Paypal and are trying to get refunds without paying anything.

There is already a massive Fraud issue on Ebay as it is, all you need is TOR to randomise your IP and Ebay actually allows Darknet IP's remarkably, and have items sent to POboxs ( never ever send to a POBOX address it's always a scam ) and then just pay using virtual payments like this, nigh untraceable and all they do is collect the item from the PObox ( mail boxes etc ) and then claim from ebay it was never received, paypal always refund the buyer and do nothing for the seller,

In short, never send anything to a non confirmed paypal and ebay address, and never to a PO BOX, you will get scammed.
