Washing The Car With A Pressure Washer?

Featured Replies

I've never done it before... I've got to admit I'm a tad reluctant it seems toooo powerful

...ok, I couldn't resist putting my hand in front of the jet to see 'HOW powerful' it was.... fairly strong

Any tips, or just point and shoot?

I bought a Karcher K2 pressure washer from Halfords a few weeks ago...

I use a pressure washer all the time.

I bet your hands a bit sore. Lol.

Pretty much just point and shoot.

Just don't get too close with it. I suppose I'm about a foot away when I do the roof. Mainly to not get wet but it works fine.

When I do the inner arches I stick the pressure washer right in there.

I prob wouldn't use it if you've got any flaking paint anywhere.

When I do the inner arches I stick the pressure washer right in there. So it doesn't really matter.

Point and shoot, but not right up close and avoid any damaged paintwork, it will tear it off. I use a pressure washer to clean wheel arches off and to generally rinse the car, but after taking the paint off my old car's wheels I am a lot more careful.

Never had any problems. I tend to give a quick swish with a hosepipe to get rid of anything really loose. Then use the dirtblaster lance at a 45-degree angle at a distance of about 3in off the body.

For anywhere delicate I use the variable pressure lance.

For the wheels, I tend to get in pretty close. Strips a lot of the brake dust off.

(I have an ancient K2.54 pressure washer - it's so old the spinning nozzle inside the dirt blaster often sticks...quite a good jet on it :D)

Lol, yeh the hand was stinging a bit for a few hours  sigh... it was a bit like one of those 9V battery situations... I just had to do it... When I get a moment I might give the car a good splash.

I have one but i seem not to use it as the hose is all ready to go with outside tap on a reel.

Got one of those hose lock set up with the nozzle that has about 8 setting, does a geat job.

Mines the old karcher, does great job on the slabs, years old but very powerful.

Well that's the thing, we actually needed to get a pressure washer for a flat roof and also a wooden seating area to get them all clean, naturally halfords seemed like a good choice with the discount, then the fact it's for a car with the car accessories was just a bonus ;) at least that's my excuse an I'm sticking with it!!

i use pressure washer all the time its great i use pwer setting for wheels and a still strong but less power for body work mines even shoots out the soap so its a bonus!

I always use pressure washers and avoid automatic car washes like the plague.

Ian, have you looked at the car wash on Billacombe road?

It's the only hot wash place in Plymouth and has vacs and foam brushes too.

I use that one myself.

It does have an auto washer too if you ever feel lazy ;)

stand a few feet away and get closer as you get more and more used to it. Some Focus ST members have blasted paint off so you have been warned.

There's a few automatic washes around Plymouth though... I believe the sainsburys car park has one of those fancy European automatic car washes...;)

Indeed they do.

Economical service as they use the same bucket of water and cloth on each car.

Mmm grit! lovely ;)
