Hi Guys

Been off for for awhile, how do I know if my Sony Dab radio has the latest firmware/software

in it, and if not what is the procedure to upgrade, I see some models have mobile apps option

can this option be in any upgrades ?.

On the Focus MK3 there were 2 different SYNC systems. First there was the normal SYNC system (SYNC 1.0) and at a later time the SYNC with APPlink system (SYNC 1.5) was introduced.

Based on the (Ford) information I have it is not possible to update the SYNC system to SYNC with APPlink. I suspect it must be possible but will cost a lot off money because the SYNC (APIM) module and possibly also the wiring are different and needs to be changed. Afterwards the system needs to be reprogrammed completely before it will work.

I have sent email to Ford UK customer services, to see what their take on it is

I am not sure how I find out what version of Sync I have as looking at my Ford Etis if gives very little data on the radio system

car was built 10/07/2012..., So could be (SYNC 1.0) or (SYNC 1.5) depending on when Ford implemented into builds ??

SYNC with APPlink has an APPlink settings section in the radio menu.

If your radio does not have this Applink settings menu your car does not have SYNC with APPlink.

That looks like it might have been built before any version of SYNC was introduced.

Do you have media controls on the arm of the steering wheel, or in the gap bottom right?

Funny how i preferred a bad system from Ford when Sync came along!

The tell-tale sign would be on steering wheel controls; i hated not being able to scroll through the media system with the left toggle buttons since 2012.5my! loved that volume rocker too

Mine looks like bottom pic with pull sync bar in gap at bottom right ....under green answer call, red hang up call..

If you have coloured phone buttons, it must be top pic which means no sync.

Sorry misread that, yes mine is the top pic, and it has sync as I can tell to alt temp by pulling sync bar, then say 20c and it alters

my temp on climate control, also I can dial mobile phone contacts etc..

That's just the old style voice control.

I can't remember all the commands, you should have a reference card with your manual though.

I thought voice control was sync, as connects to my mobile, forgive me..

No it is just the older style Bluetooth with voice control.

Sync was introduced around sept 2012.

my system does all of this except recieveing or sending texts, which is phone specific, I havent

crashed car to see if it dials emergency services, according to my v5 car was registered in sept 2012

but plays mp3 from usb stick.. maybe my car was on the cusp when for introduced it

Sept build dates. Your car was built July.

My last Focus was built may 2012 and didn't have sync. Same voice controls as yours.

If you had sync there would be sync settings in the menu and you would have different audio controls.

My mums focus was built Oct 2012 and has sync. It is also listed differently on etis.

In some ways, I prefer the old system. I don't think sync supports climate commands.
