Yesterday i was driving my car and turned left and it sounded like i had driven over a can got to the next corner turned left again heard clonking sound carried on turned right big clonk gears stopped working had tp leave car where it was. Someone said it was the passenger side drive shaft any input would be helped have been told also it is a garage job and to difficult to fix at home .

Sounds driveshaft related. My guess would be that the joints popped out.

Seen it before on the mk4/5. You might be lucky and get away with popping it back in as a semi-permant fix if your abit low on funds. I've done one on my mates mk5 and it's still going a year later.

It's not a job for a novice but if you've got a mate that's handy with cars it shuldnt be that difficult, assuming it is the driveshaft that is.

thankyou for answering my question i have just gone and had a look there is a metal bar that goes to the centre of the wheel that has a rubber covering and that is wobbling about is that the driveshaft

Sounds like it. If it's came apart at the wheel end you'll probably just need a new end for it. Can't think of the technical term for it. Lol. Your best bet is to get a second hand driveshaft from the scrapyard and fitting the whole lot. You can only really get away with popping it back in if it's came apart at the gearbox end.
