Focus Mk2 1.8Tdci

Featured Replies

Hi my focus has developed some issues: please can anyone help

Battery discharged due to cold weather had it replaced and car not been same.

System engine failure appeared and car went into limp mode. Turned car off and no fault in pannel, car drives ok except when coming to a round about and is sluggish on acceleration in 2nd. I've bought a OBD code reader and the fault code is P2236.

I have serched the forum and internet and cannot find what the code is.

Does anyone know what P2236 means?

Thinking about taking car to dearer next week.

Thanks

Mick..

P2236 - Generic - O2Sensor Signal Circuit Shorted to Heater Circuit- Bank 2Sensor 3.

Thanks

Mick

That's correct what it say if you google it what the prob relates to I don't know on the 2.0 ltr mondeo it points to a turbo regulator solenoid and say to check wiring now I have read on here about some wiring burning out on the fuel heat sensor ( if that's correct name for it) which is situated in line with the oil filler cap on the front of the engine seems quite common I'd have a look at that .also recall something on here ref glow plug wiring I think it chaffed against the head to the rear right .could be two possible causes .

Thanks, I read the code wrong last night! Tired! the correct code is 2263 Turbo Charger/ super charger boost. System performance.

Going to take it to a Garage this morning as it's too difficult for me to do.

Well got the dreaded phone call today indicating the TURBO was broken. I've instructed the independent garage to fix it as I need a car. Don't know what the price will be but needs doing as I need the car.

The owner of the garage says it's a night mere of a job. Is this the case??

He said he does not do second hand ones as he cannot guarantee it.

So suppose this will be an expensive month.

I don't think they are the easiest of jobs, when I had my turbo replaced on my precious car it was around £500 just for the part

Thanks, I'm expecting to pay around £1,200 for the part and labour. If any cheaper then that's a bonus.

Don't think there as hard to do as the 2.0 ltr TDCI now they are a mare for a recon turbo over here I was getting prices of around 450 on the 2.0 had a polish friend of mine take it back to Poland yer it took a few weeks but all reconed for 250 as for labour don't think it will be anywhere near what your expecting as it's more a fiddler job getting it out than actually got to do this this an this say so think you might be on the lower end of your estimate by what I can see on mine a lot easier than the 2.0

Spoke to the garage today and there going for the recondition option first. There gonna take it out on Wednesday should be back by Thursday if electrics ok then can be reconditioned if electrics no good then it will have to be a new one.

Surely if electrics no good then the next option would be buy a reconditioned one!

Electrics no good what they on about there's only a Boost actuator on there with a connector on it and apart from getting dropped on it shouldn't go wrong .

STEADS thanks for the info I'll keep you posted after next Wednesday. In the meantime I've hired a car for a week from tomorrow.

the Lynx 1.8 tdci engine is an old one and not as refined as the 1.6 or 2.0 engines. Surprised the garage would replace the whole engine from a reliable place.

The garage called me today and said that the Turbo reconditioning people said my Turbo is beyond reconditioning so expensive day tomorrow as having a new one fitted.

Anyone ever heard of a Turbo not been able to be reconditioned??

I will let you know the damage tomorrow. I think the garage thinks I'm not going to ask for my old Turbo back lol.

if the turbo did go for refurbishment then ask for the report as this would detail what repairs would have been required!

Thanks for this, I will ask.

Turbo done, car feels like a different car. Now the cost - just over £1,600. Never asked about old turbo due to other life changing events happening in family, really puts things into perspective and really not so important, so not bothered about price, old turbo - it's only money.
