Low Mpg

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I think I'm getting quite a low MPG, and I'm not sure what can be causing that. It's a MK2.5 1.8 TDCi 2009, with the EGR blanked. I'm usually driving 20 miles at around 50mph daily and the mpg is 36-40. I've seen in other topics that it should be around 50+

Is there anything that can be causing that?

P.S. I'm trying to drive sensibly, without booting it on every occasion.

I use mine for driving tuition .

Before with budget tyres I'd get av 46

Mpg.recently had fitted two Goodyear efficient grip at kwik fit now get 52 mpg.

I have 3 efficient grip installed (the 4th one is budget, but with good thread). Had oil changed and the car serviced 6 months ago, so everything should be fine.

I can't offer any advice sadly. I have the same engine as you in a MK2 Estate, it's blanked off like yours.

On a 20mile 50mph round we have near me, I average 56mpg, that's not being overly light on the accelerator so yours is lower than I'd expect.

I only average around 37mpg with my Focus 1.8 diesel 57 plate also when I am going to and from work. mixed driving but 90% is national speed limit. driving normal.

But when I was off work on holiday for a few weeks and I was only driving in town traffic I only averaged 33mpg.

I also expected more mpg with my Focus. car has just been serviced etc.

Even though now it wont start lol.
