Ford Focus Mk2 (Pre Facelift?) Fuse / Relays

Featured Replies

I've got a 56 reg focus and have got both dipped beam headlights out. I changed the bulb in one side (which didn't look blown when I took it out) and the replacement isn't working. I've checked the voltage and there's no 12V at the bulb connector when the headlights are switched on. Same on the other side. Side lights are on though - I assume they should be on when the switch is set to dipped? Anyway, I then used the owners manual to check the fuses and they are all intact. I looked in my Haynes manual (2005-2009 (54-09 reg) Petrol) and it shows a relay used to switch on the dipped beam lights so my next thoughts were it could be the relay. However, the fuses and relay numbering on my car (fuses from 37-86) doesn't match the Haynes manual (fuse numbers from 100-143), and the owners manual doesn't list the relays . Can anyone provide me with the location of the relay for the dipped beam (and preferably the full beam so I can swap them to test - if they're the same type, obviously!)? The MK2 wiring diagram on this site has the fuses starting from 100. I've also seen posts where people have the owners manual for the F100 relays, but my style of fuse board or vice versa and from what I can tell the difference is due to a facelift at some point, so I think my question is actually - has anyone got a fuse/relay layout for a pre-facelift mk2!!!

If you click on my guides link under this post you'll find a PDF of the early MK2 Focus fuses but unfortunately no relay layouts.

On the Focus MK2/MK2.5 most of the relays are SMD relays which are integrated onto the circuit board of the GEM module/fuse box. Officially these relays can not be changed. If one of the SMD relays becomes defect you have to change the complete GEM module/fuse box which is pretty expensive. However if you have enough soldering skills you should be able to replace a defective relay.

Hi thanks for the quick responses. Well it turns out I was being a dumbass, combined with some confusing switch logic! I hadn't realised the headlights didn't come on unless the ignition was on - put the ignition on and all is good. Originally I thought I had 2 dipped bulbs and a full beam gone, because I had the light turned to dipped and only side lights came on (I.e no dipped) but when I pulled the indicator stalk one of what I assumed was full beam came on - it turns out if dipped is on with no ignition, activating full beam switches dipped beam on!!!???? I also assumed that the beeping with ignition off and dipped switch on was to tell me my dipped beam were on, not my side lights - although I've now realised the beeping occurs even with the switch set to side lights. I think the logic would make more sense if all lights including the side lights went off when ignition is off, unless the switch is in what I assume is the park position, but maybe I'm just making excuses for my own stupidity! I would still like to find out what all the relays are however - trawling the Internet has yet to find the list for this car!
