Mk3 Bluetooth & Using Maps On Iphone

Featured Replies

Hi I am being lead down dead ends with this issue.

Just purchased a mk3 focus titanium x with sony cd/dab radio unit.

I have paired my iPhone 6 with the car and I can make and receive calls via the cars Bluetooth system.

The problem I am having is that when I use any navigation app on the iPhone when it is connected to the cars Bluetooth, I get no verbal direction commands either through the phone speakers or the cars speakers. If I turn Bluetooth off in either the car or on the phone, the directions start coming through my phone speakers again.

The question is, is it possible to pair the phone to SYNC so that calls can be made hands free BUT also have navigation apps, speed camera alerts ect come through the phone still? If not, is there a way to have these voice directions come through the cars audio system without having to turn the radio off?

Thanks.

don yo uhave to have the radio on, with the bluetooth input selected?

We had the same trouble with my mums car and i think thats how we fixed it!

Hi. I managed to get verbal directions to play through the car speakers by selecting input to Bluetooth Audio. However, this means not having the radio on... Does anybody know how to override on an iPhone to make verbal speech directions from apps like google maps/tomtom to come through the phone speakers when the phone is connected to Bluetooth?

Hi, I think you'll find it's and either or situation. I've had 2 Mk3's and on both of them, the only way to get navigation app instructions through the speakers is to use Bluetooth audio. An option is to load your IPhone with some music, then you'll get music, overridden with navigation directions. I'm pretty sure, that there's no settings on either your phone or the radio to alter. I suspect someone will may have the solution you're looking for, however this is the only way it's worked for me.

How about getting the directions through the phone but still have it connected to Bluetooth for hands free calling? I know that this can be done on android after some googling but not found a solution for iPhone.

I thought to do this you have to have the iPhone connected to the USB port with the iPhone cable. I may be wrong but everything I've seen to do this is in this way as Apple don't allow it to work any other way.

Handsfree should still work when connected via Bluetooth audio without having to do anything else.

You have missed my point. Bluetooth audio isn't an option if you want to listen to the cars radio whilst also getting turn by turn navigation. I can get google maps to give turn by turn directions over the cars speakers by selecting Bluetooth audio, but that means driving along in silence. I have been unable to get voice navigation to play over the top of the in car radio OR find an option to play voice navigation through my phones speakers when it is connected to Bluetooth instead. If I turn Bluetooth off, the nav talk comes through the iPhone but then the whole point of Bluetooth and hands free calling is wasted. I will try connecting via USB but I cant see what good that is going to do.

Connecting via USB with Apple devices is pretty much mandatory. It's Apple that have not released the features to work via Bluetooth ie text messages and the like. On my fiesta mk 7.5 st to use the applink feature you must be connected to the usb to use this. On android you don't have to do this. That's why I'm thinking that's how it will work.

I had this issue on my mk2.5 and solved it by making sure that before the phone was linked via Bluetooth the silent switch not on and that the volume was turned up. Launch the nav app then link on the Bluetooth. I get the radio then the nav instructions through the speakers however I do normally turn it off as its a bit annoying to have the radio/usb keep cutting out to switch to the nav app.

I plugged the phone in via USB and it still doesn't work. The car recognises that an ipod is plugged in. I can view my tracks and playlists ect via my cars' display. When I click on a track to play it, it says its playing but you cannot hear it through the car speakers. When I wake the screen on my iPhone I can visibly see the settings I input through the car stereo DO change the track on the iPhone, but I get no sound through the car speakers even though the track is "playing". If I go to Bluetooth audio, I can hear the track playing but then I have no control of the iPhone under this setting (ie I cannot change track or select a playlist with the cars own buttons) I would need to do it from the phone which defeats the object of hands free. Anybody have any ideas?

I sometimes get this track playing but no sound I find if you turn the whole stereo off and on again it starts playing. I got so p****d off I bought a micro usb for my music and left s few dozen tracks on the iPhone for use with tomtom through Bluetooth connection.

I have given up with this. The best solution for me has been to switch off Bluetooth and not use it.

  • 3 years later...

I have the reverse. I bought a late 2014 S-Max Titanium with Sony DAB. When I bluetooth my iPhone 6S, everything music-wise etc works fine.

However, when using any voice directions over bluetooth, either Apple Maps or Google Maps, as soon as any command has finished, the radio comes on to whichever station is set.

Any way of getting around this without plugging in via USB, for instance? Or is this a software bug?

Any suggestions appreciated.

In Google Maps under Settings - Navigation have you got "Play as Bluetooth phone call" switched on or off? Try the other setting and see if that helps.
