Adding Sat Nav Functionality

Featured Replies

Hey guys, new guy here so be nice :)

I am getting a 2013 Focus 1.6TDCi Zetec this weekend, I am just wondering how easy it is to add sat nav functionality?

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

You have two options - replace the head unit with a ford unit, or an aftermarket unit. Either way you could get SatNav, I would personally suggest go aftermarket, as you can get an android unit, with all the gadgets and gizmos for under £200

Could you link me to these units at all? Ford and aftermarket so I can check out both. Thanks :)

hold on I just realised... the 2011 is the one with the small screen only for the radio, but I cant remember the shape of the stereo control on the centre console?

Yeah my bad, I was thinking the wrong thing. The units I am thinking about are for the oval shaped units, I cant say I have seen anyone replace these units...

Oh that sucks, not even just standard stereos then? Without satnav? Is it the awful shape of these that make it so hard?

Sadly the shape is the big problem, you probably could find a cage and fascia but not sure on the sizes etc

Ah I see, well it does have USB, bluetooth connectivity etc so can attach my iPhone just have to live with navigation through my iphone. Thanks for your help!

I'm no expert by any means - however I have had a similar thought to your good self. After looking through the time vs cost of replacing the OEM dash to cater for a double DIN mount, to then mount a built in sat-nav, faff with the buttons etc, you'd have spent a lot of money, and have sworn a lot by that point..

I have a Snooper DB8500 "do-just-about-everything sat-nav" already from work (

Brodit cater to all types of sat-nav for the required mount, however they only sell to retailers, so you need to find a retailer that sells them. I'll post a pic when i've got it installed so you get an idea. They offer mounts for the left grill, right grill and right pillar. Depending on the size of the sat-nav you get will probably dictate where you put it.

I always advocate 3rd party sat-nav other than OEM, as they usually have "update dics" that cost an arm and a leg to update. (2 DVD upgrade discs for my dads car, they wanted £300.00 for it !!!)

As I have a monster 7 inch screen it needs to go as far from the wheel as possible... your mileage may vary.

Edit: - Spelling !
