Fiesta Mk7 Usb Music

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've just joined after Googling this problem and finding this forum, but didn't quite find the answer I needed.

Long story short .... My wife's Citroen was written off at Christmas and the other drivers insurance provided us with a brand new Fiesta hire car. We liked the Fiesta and today bought a 2010 Titanium model.

Both cars have a usb socket and my 16gb usb stick works perfectly in the 2014 hire car, but when I put the same stick into the socket in our 2010 car it isn't working correctly. It recognises that the usb is there and starts to play a song, but after a second it sounds like its fast forwarding through the song. Also its only showing 10 of the 150 songs that are on the stick.

I found a thread on here about updating the bluetooth / usb system and have just done that, but the issue hasn't been resolved !!

http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/32473-guide-video-installing-usb-update/

Has anybody had this issue and is it an easy fix ?

Thanks

Update - Fixed It

I've just dug out another usb stick and copied the files from my desktop over to it just like before, but now its working perfectly in the car.

It's registering all 150 tracks and playing them at normal speed.

The only difference between the two usb sticks is that the first one is usb 3.0 and the one thats working is usb 2.0. I always thought that 3.0 was backwards compatible but obviously my car didn't like it lol

Thanks for the help.

My blue tooth fast forwards songs on occasion, usually sorts itself if I change track or unsync/resync. Have you tried disconnecting the battery and leaving for 10 mins?

As for the songs not showing... could be something as simple as a codec. The 10 plate might not show up anything it can't play (what's the point?) Are the songs different file types, .wmv, .mp3 etc?

Could also be how you put them into the usb, are there subfolders containing songs etc?

You need to upgrade the software on your stereo. This will allow you to play music off a flash drive (although I haven't tried this myself) as well as use an official iPod cable instead of those ghastly Y cables. There's also improved Bluetooth stability as well. You can find info and link here http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/index.php?/topic/59112-Where-To-Download-Latest-Stereo-Firmware-Update???

Thanks for the help

I forgot to say that its a Sony branded unit thats in our car.

I haven't tried disconnecting the battery, but I can try that tomorrow.

All the songs are .mp3 files taken from the iTunes folder on my Mac, and put straight onto the usb .... no folders.

It just seems strange that the usb stick works perfectly in the '14 but not the '10 !!!

Could it be the usb size ? Its a 3.0 16gb Mini SanDisk stick.

The hire company gave us a Fiat 500 first but with only 5k on the clock the engine blew up .... wasn't me !! and the same usb with the same music files worked fine in that car as well.

I've connected my phone via bluetooth and that plays music fine. I haven't tried the cd player but the radio is also working correctly.

I'd rather have a usb stick with music on in the car because using my phone via bluetooth drains the battery really quickly. I was hoping that the update would sort it, but I just tried it a second time but its saying that no update required now. So its updated correctly.

if not the battery which I'll try tomorrow then anything else ?

Thanks

I updated the software but it didn't solve it, so thats why I started this thread to get some help.

Not sure about the Sony unit mate, I've only got the standard one with usb/Bluetooth. Might need to consult Google. Just search Ford audio update, you should find something

The update seems to have been successful because it said it was updating and then when i tried it again to check, it said that the latest software was installed.

So i don't think its a software update issue. I could be wrong though lol

Not sure then. Could be the file type like ifoundmyalloys suggested

Do you have another usb stick around that you can try with the same songs? This will determine whether or not it's a compatibility issue between the car and stick (obviously the stick itself is fine as it works in other cars). Also try playing about with the actual contents - remove all but one song and see if that plays without a problem. Try a few basic things like this first to narrow the problem down and take it from there.

Cool, glad you've sorted it mate

Glad you got it sorted mate! At least it was a simple fix :D

That seems to have been the issue. I used another stick and now its working.

Thanks for your help

Scalded,
I think you might have it a bit wrong regarding ‘backwards compatibility’. It is the host device, (i.e. a PC say), which has the compatibility not the memory stick. A computer that is USB3 enabled can deal with any stick you plug into it but it cannot work the other way round. If your car stereo is only USB2 it cannot deal with a stick formatted as USB3; it doesn’t know about it. The fact that you got it to work after a fashion in your car is actually a bonus.
Regards.

Hi Kent. That's not correct. A USB 3 device doesn't have a specific format unique to it, and a USB 3 device will work in a USB 2, 1.1 and 1.0 port but just at their respective slower speeds. That is how the official USB 3 spec is supposed to be implemented. However that doesn't mean that manufacturers adhere fully to that, or there aren't occasional anomalies.

However in Scalded's case I wonder if the file format was different, and not compatible, with Fords audio unit on the USB 3 stick? (Again, independent of the USB version).

I had the same problem. Formatted drive in Fat32 then added Mp3 files and worked fine. Fat32 only supports drives up to 4GB and just use USB 2.0 for music works fine for me.
