Need Some Help Or Advice

Featured Replies

i just bought a 2005 ford focus 1.6 tdci estate today drove it for about 3 hours in total and was pleased with the car until i came to lock it up for the night and leave it outside my house. i used the remote fob on the key to lock the car and pressed the same button again to arm the imobiliser.

went in the house and thought nothing more until someone knocked on my door to tell me my lights were flashing on my car?????? i grab my keys go look at the car and yes the indicators are flashing like the hazzard lights are on but no sound coming from the alarm????. so i use the fob to unlock the car and them press it again to lock it. only for this process to happen 6 times tonight. so i thoguht id unlock the car get in start it drive it and then go back lock it and that would be it........... nope same again only this time the door open warnign light is on in the dash display, i checked all doors boot bonet etc all closed. found the passenger front door to be clogged with gunk and muck so i used some degreaser and wd40 to release the gunka nd slam the door shut....... light went off.

now 2 mins later another nieghbour knocks me up to tell me the lights are flashing again.so this time ive locked the car with the key in the door handle of the drivers door and im waiting to see if the lights go off again.

my question is this 1, why no sound if its the alarm going off, 2, what could be the cause to make the lights flash if all doors are closed and locked, and 3, is this gonna be a costly fix????

answer away please as im desperate to solve this as i need the car to take a break this coming weekend

did you buy the car in a private sale?

It sounds to me like you have an electrical fault. To test the alarm, start off by locking the car twice with the fob.

Then, open the bonnet with the key, this should set the alarm off. that will check the sounder is working.

Does this happen during the day?

Oh I might pinch that trick to test mine out, only had the car since Oct I have no idea if the alarm works for not.

Sorry I can not add anything to the original poster.

yes i bought it private and it happened at night and day and no the alrm does not sound with the bonet opened

Ok so it could be the alarm sounder isn't active or present. Check the fuses to make sure the alarm fuse is intact. If not replace it and you should find the alarm sounds again. Pop the bonnet and close it lightly (not all the way) and turn the car to electrics it. Should tell you the bonnet is open. If it doesn't this may be the cause of the issue.

done that i have had the car to a garage on a tester and it says theres a fault on the horn relay and now the door open light is showing on the clocks and all doors are shut only come on since i opened the bonet

checked the plunger part of the bonnet to make sure it goes down and it does but its pretty hard to push down can anyone confirm is there meant to be a cap or some sort over the plunger part or is it just a metal stem ?

It's just the metal stem, if the horn works then it could be an electrical issue. If you don't have the trip computer saying bonnet open then I believe this is the issue. Depending on how confident you are, you could short circuit the wires going to the bonnet switch stem and that should turn the light off.

Either way I recon this is causing your alarm and flashing lights issue.
