Mk2 1.6Tdci Power Loss

Featured Replies

Hi All,

For the past few weeks I've been having a problem where the car feels sluggish, and if I take the revs past 2.5-3k the engine management light will come on and the car will go into limp mode. It feels as though the turbo isn't kicking in but I would rather put off replacing the turbo if I don't need to as it's not cheap!

Has anyone else had a similar sort of problem?

you need to get the codes read to see if it come up with any fault codes

Check the history of the fuel filter - if not changed recently, put a new one on.

I've now solved this problem, so I thought I'd do a quick write up for people with the same problem, coming across this thread.

I plugged in the code reader after the light had been on and gone off, no codes stored. I then managed to get the light to stay on and plugged the code reader in, again no codes.

The car was getting close to a service so I thought I'd trying an oil change and a fuel filter change as I'd had the car nearly a year and put on about 10k miles.

This appears to have solved the problem. It's now been nearly 3 weeks since changing them both and I've not had the light on or drop of power since!

worth draining the water from the fuel filter as well on a regular basis, I serviced mine the other day and drained out about half the volume of the filter in water, cant imagine that was any good for things, the fuel line PSI jumped up by about 500 PSI after I did it.
