Struggling To Start

Featured Replies

My Car seems to struggle to start in the mornings.

No error codes but a little smokey on start up.

It ticks over but can take a couple of tries to get it started.

During the day however its ok and runs as normal. Been hapening for the last two months, is this

Anyone know what could be wrong?

Could well be the glowplugs if it is turning over ok, but struggling to actually fire up.

I would be looking to do a leakback test on the injectors myself, dodgy injectors cause the car to struggle to start first thing more so kn the cold. How many miles has the car done? Glowplugs are rarely used for cold starting on common rail diesels they are more for emissions control and smoother idling. My previous ZTT and my Focus both start on the button no matter how cold it is and without even waiting for the Glowplugs.

Its done 141k.

Did my weekly check under the bonnet yesterday and seemed to nitce some oil.

Unsure where its from, just under the right intercooler pipe.

My 1.8TDCI was cranking no problems but on cold mornings took about 10 seconds to actually fire up with all the unburnt diesel coming out of the exhaust in a nice blue cloud (think Del Boy's Reliant Robin & you won't be far wrong).

For me replacing the glow plugs fixed it & even on a freezing morning it starts 1st time.

When it wasn't a 'cold' morning it started without the big blue cloud.
