Transferring Private Plate: Old Car --> New Car

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Hoping for some others feedback on this please.

I owned a Clio previously with a private plate on it, and want to transfer the registration to the Fiesta. Purchased my Fiesta on 28th Jan, and submitted all the relevant paperwork to DVLA via recorded delivery on the 29th Jan. Checked the tracking, and it was signed/received on the 30th Jan. On 6th Feb I received the V5C (red front) for the Fiesta, but still on it's current registration. Gave DVLA a call on 10th Feb and explained what the situation was, and was advised to wait for at least another week (which is 2 days time). The £80 fee still doesn't show as being debited from my bank either.

What timescales have others had to wait, until the correct V5C comes through? As Tax runs out on the Clio 28th Feb, and i've already got a buyer lined up for the Clio.

Cheers

Dvla are slow, sure my friend waited a few months to get his plate transferred mate,

I waited at least 2 weeks

About 2 weeks for mine too.

Must have been a back log, or some thing around time me and him applied for things, as took them 5 months to send my v5 to me, and about 2 months for his plate to get put on new car,

I still have the plates for the original registration of the Clio, so that's not an issue. But I need the new logbook for both cars in order to sell the Clio on, and transfer the plates over to the Fiesta. They are seriously dragging their feet about this!

I'll wait until Friday, and give them a call. As that would have been 2 weeks since posting all the paperwork off.

They will be slower now as a number of private plates would be bought for Christmas so they will be playing catch up

Update: called these today. They said my application was refused, and sent back to me on Monday. I asked why was it refused? They said that the new Vehicle is not taxed by the new driver... I argued and stated I taxed the vehicle with the reference number, from the new keepers slip. I even printed off the new tax confirmation and included it with my application. She checked the System and confirmed the new vehicle was actually taxed by myself. They also said they now want the logbook I received for the Fiesta last Friday. Bearing in mind I originally included a filled in V317 + V62 forms, plus MoT certificate [for previous vehicle], new keepers slips and Cheque for payment. Fuming!!
