Focus 2012 Steering Wheel Change To St

Featured Replies

I was wondering if and how easy it is to change a steering wheel on a 62 plate focus Zetec S for a 2013 focus ST one as I've got the ST interior, stereo, gear knob and wheels but the steering wheel would finish it off I feel.... Also my zetec s wheel has the sync and volume etc paddles on it ? Do I have to remove them from the wheel? Lastly With the airbags is it a easy DIY or really need to see someone professional to do it?

Cheers for any help on this

The MK3 ST steering wheel can be installed to a normal MK3 without any problems.

You only have to make sure you buy the right type of steering wheel for your car with (or without) the cutouts for the switches. Ford used several different steering wheels which are basically all the same except the number of cutouts for the switches. You can also buy a steering wheel without the cutouts and cut them yourself but this is a very time consuming job. The wiring of the different steering wheels/model years is also different. If the wiring is different you can use the wiring loom of your existing steering wheel and install this into the ST steering wheel.

The airbag can be removed without any problems. Before removing the airbag it is recommended to disconnect the positive battery terminal.

Some time ago I made a guide about retrofitting Cruise Control to a Focus MK3. This guide also includes removing of the airbag and steering wheel and cutting the cutout into the steering wheel. This guide can be found here:
