New Owner. First Diy Service. What Shall I Do?

Featured Replies

I recently purchased a 2011 Ford Focus Zetec with £8000 on the clock. Previous owner had it from new on motability. I like to do all my basic servicing, but it's a while since I serviced a petrol engine. Can anyone out there suggest a to do list with any hints on things to check to prevent future issues. I will be purchasing a handbook in due course. I haven't even looked up what type of oil to use yet. Any help would be appreciated.

Oil, oil filter, air filter & spark plugs changes would be the basics.

Got any history whats been done before? Motorbility cars normaly sevice on time ok,

also pollen and fuel filter at same time

Being a petrol you might not find a fuel filter. But check tyres, brakes, brake discs or drums. Coolant fluid level, steering fluid, brake fluid, washer fluid, all lights. Check for any signs of leaks. Then move onto oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter.

Could even run an aircon bomb to disinfect the system aswell. Keeps it smelling fresh.

Chances are it will take 5w30 oil but check owners manual first.
