Advice Please - 2007 Focus 1.8 Tdci - Hand Brake Cable Removal Replace (Rear Discs)

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Just advice please..... :)

Daughter has a 2007 Focus tdci 1.8 saloon (rear discs). There is much evidence of a sticking l/h rear handbrake cable.

Both calipers were replaced approx 11 months ago, so pretty certain they are fine. Footbrake action is fine and and after the handbrake is pulled/released a few times, the sticking frees. (I suspected a sticky cable even at the time of replacing the calipers)

So my question is quite simple....is there anything awkward I am likely to encounter in removing the old cables and replacing new? Any tips please?

I have always tackled most repairs over my many years, and only avoid modern electronic systems!

Unfortunately I have no special facilities so it's a case of laying under the car....no ramp, only jacks. So any advice is appreciated.

Thanks Tim

(Sorry if there's already a topic or guide on this....but if there is, I can't find it!)

you gonna need to remove the middle section of the heatshield, ford recommend taking the whole exhaust off but apparently the middle section can be removed without doing it with a bit of force, what you will need to do is replace the little bustard retention clips ford uses to hold it on.

whilst not specific to your needs there is a nice guide from a rear drum conversion.

it has the relevant information for a new brake cable so should do you well.

im about to do that mod myself so would be interested in any pictures and progress on how yo got the shield off
