Interior Light

Featured Replies

First post on the forum Hi guys.

I have a 2006 Focus estate and when I open the drivers door the interior light does not come on also on the instrument display ther is no mention of the drivers door being open. The light comes on and message is displayed when all the other doors are opened.

Could this be a faulty switch in the door lock mechanism as I take it thats where the switch is located as there is no sign of a door switch on the A post.

Is it an easy fix.

Plenty of WD40 and operating the switch plunger should do the trick.

Iirc it's inside the locking point on the door shut.

One thing you can do to test the door switches is press and hold the rear demist button when you start the car.

Keep it pressed in until you get a tone and the hazards flash.

Operating any switch, button or lever will now cause the tone/flash including the door switches.

Repeat the push and start routine to deactivate the button test mode.

Thanks I'll give the lock the WD40 treatment first.

if non of the above ideas work it might be a faulty switch you are looking for a black tag looks like a gromit but is hard plastic can't think were it is off the top of my head and i am not near my car at the moment to check. some times they just need a good wipe

Tried the WD treatment but no luck there i'm afraid.

This black plastic thingy is it above the striker lock mechanism about the same line as the exterior door handle by any chance ?

That is the grommet to access the handle release bolt.

Just try giving the whole door latch a good blast with oil and operate the lock a few times.

Havve you tried the button test I posted yet?

No not tried the button test yet. But there is no warning of the drivers door being open on the dash display.

Also if i unlock the car then open drivers door and hold open after 30 secs the car locks its self so my opinion is it doesn't know the doors open cos of the switch being faulty or stuck in the closed position.
