I have a 2009 Focus 1.6tdci with a dpf. It's done 91,000 miles and until the last service interval (which I did myself using fully synthetic magnatec) had a full service history most of which was ford exept for a few early ones which were the lease company using ford parts. The last service was done 2000 miles ago. I filled up wth Diesel yesterday and as I pulled out of the filling station the warning noise sounded and Engine Malfunction came up on the dashboard. I re-started the car to see if this cleared it which it didn't.

The car is running fine. I've had a look under the bonnet and removd the engine cover the vain hope of being able to see something but nothing seems out of place all the fluids seem ok and the fuse box is dry.

I've run the dashboard diagnostics and the only error was NVM EEporm fail 0001. I can't find much on this except it can indicate a faulty display unit.

My usual commute is around 35 each way mostly an A roads although a good section of that is limited to 50mph. Does this sound like a DPF faliure? Or should I be looking at something else. I'm loathed to take it to any of the local main dealer as firstly they are expensive and secondly they haven't got a clue.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

that error sounds like an issue with the cluster diagnostics

grab yourself a proper code reader and get the error checked that way. if the car drives fine then it shouldnt be the DPF, especially since youre doing 70 miles a day

As above the Engine malfunction means get it checked out on some diagnostics, without that the fault could be anything. Either buy the ELM and Forscan or get it to someone who can diagnose it for you. I could help if you need in the meantime to see what error codes it is throwing up. I have IDS and Forscan.

It could be related to the DPF, or the cluster or any number of things.

I assume yours will have the coated DPF and not require the Eoyls fluid so it won't be that I think.

Thanks for all the advice. I've bought a reader and run it through Forscan. There were a few fault codes most of which cleared. The two that looked ominous were a Regeneration Failiure and the Fuel Additive low. The regeneration failiure has gone but obviously I need to get the Eoyls fluid topped up and then the counter reset.

I've had a look at a few different threads on here about it. I've phoned two different Ford dealers. One quoted me £199 for the fluid/labour plus £77 for the reset of the counter. Another quoted me £150 all in. It seems odd that for the same job using the same prices things vary so much!

I've seen some feeds reporting a cost of £100 does anyone know where?
