Sounds like a throttle issue, possibly the potentimeter?

Not right no should only hit about 1100 briefly then drop down slowly if the cars a mk1 or 1.5 then idle control valve if its news then the above suggestions what IDE say as well

thanks for the reply's it a 2008 1.8 petrol focus

right ive had new throttle body and senor ,now ive also noticed a slight back fire

also been updated to all the new software

Backfire suggest overfueling or coil pack was it present before the throttle body was replaced? The idle I believe is controlled by the ecu on the later 1.8 so somethings throwing the readings out on the rear of the throttle body there's a hose going into it try getting someone to rev the engine as you look at the hose if its collapsing that coil be you're culprit also check it for splits.

If this has happened after the throttle was changed then it coil be its not been fitted correctly other culprits can be faulty o2 sensors in the exhaust

hi, sorry for delay

backfire is a popping noise not always happening ,and it wasn't present before the throttle body change

ive checked the pipes i can see ,but cant find anything wrong there

the work was all done at a ford dealer ,they keep saying this is normal for the revs ?

i aint to sure about that statement

wouldnt the o2 sensor throw up an error code if this was wrong ?

thanks
