Hi I am looking at fitting a usb aux into one of the blanking covers next to the rear window de mist on my mk2. Is there an how to for this some where. Only want it for sat nav and changing phone and that. Thank you.

One of these would be ideal to start with

With USB port output being under a tad under 5V you'd probably have to use some circuitry to provide this from the 12V supply in the car. Something like a voltage regulator chip could do that but I'd expect there's already something specifically designed for what you need.

Course you could always get a 12V USB charger which goes in the ciggy lighter, wire in a female power socket then get suitable USB cable to go from the charger to marry up with the USB button linked above.

Would be a bit chunky to tidy away behind the dash but would do the job I reckon.

Yeah was looking at one of them just not sure where to connect it. Got a double usb one that goes in tge cigarette lighter but the trouble with that is the cigarette lighter is on when ignition of.

I have a guide for this in my guides link under this post when viewed on a PC.

Thank you Clive had a look and that seems pretty straight forward.

Just a quick thought. Is there a way of wiring it so works with ignition as my cig lighter stays on even with ignition of.

Two options really, either piggyback off a ignition live fuse on the footwell board or fit a switch before the socket.
