Idle Revs Issue

Featured Replies

HI all, i am having some issues with the idle rev on my focus which is a 2001 1.6 manual petrol model.
When I am driving and come to a stop I put the car into neutral, the revs jump up to 2000-2100rpm and stay there for about 2 to 3 secs before dropping to about 1000rpm - my feet are off all the pedals. When i am in gear and driving the revs seems to be fine/normal - go into gear the revs are normal.
Does anyone know what could be causing this, what do i need to look at?
Thanks in advance guys.

Could be the air idle control valve needs a clean. I did this on my 1.25 mk5 fiesta and it sorted the problem.

Idle sir control valve 3 ten mm bolts is all that holds it on and a connector if its faulty you'll either get revs sitting way too low or it goes the other way and they rev too high

will take it off and give it a clean over the weekend thanks.

+1. When cold and under high electrical load if you de clutched the revs would drop down to 5-600 revs and stutter a bit. Fixed after it was cleaned of all the gunk.

The mk1 also had a software update to solve under idle
