Featured Replies

Saw a very good guide (as always) from Lenny regarding a Green Cotton induction Filter........

http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/36783-green-cotton-performance-induction-filter-fitting-guide/

Like the sound of it but cant seem to find one for a MK2.5 1.8 Petrol . Anyone know where to find one as i have googled it to death and just cant seem to find it,only flat panel air filters.Any ideas folks ?

Many thanks

Have you checked what shape your filter is?

Holding my head in shame i hadnt as it was pitch black outside when i saw Lenny's posting and been racing around all day but being fair even flat ones i see seem to jump from 1.6 to 2.0 which seems strange but will check later . Thanks for your reply.

No probs, always worth a check. To be fair, I had a quick look on some websites. And couldn't see any listed for a 1.8 petrol.

Cheers Jamie, thought i must just be looking somewhere wrongly or in fact Ford have been selling 1.6's disguised as 1.8s ;-)

lol.....they list all the diesels, just seem to skip 1.8 petrol. :)

Heres a Piper one, think that's for yours. http://www.thepipercrossshop.co.uk/pipercross-round-performance-panel-filter-length-157mm-x-height-196mm-x-internal-70mm-px1746_p22540669.htm

But looking at itg and bmc. The air boxes are the same through the engine range on the mk2.5.

From the late Focus MK2 (2007 onwards) Ford switched from a square panel air filter to a cone shaped air filter.

Except from the Focus ST (late MK2 and MK2.5) all engine types have the same air filter. Even the Focus MK3 does have this same cone shaped air filter.

Just checked and apart from dropping one of the screws that holds the cover in place into the engine and down on to the cover/ protector (Oh bugger) found it is the round one just like in Lennys.....now got to find the green cotton one.....and a screw ;-)

Cheers lads.

And many thanks Jamie for the links, very much appreciated mate.

K&N is cheaper, performs well too......I have one fitted in my 1.6 tdci. :)

So does it change the sound much Jamie and have you noticed much of a power increase when going through the gears . Many reviews seem to say power wise a differnce is felt (Obviously only slight....not as though a turbo is being fitted) but seems some say it adds a sportier sound and some say it doesnt . Had a K&N years back but seem many prefer the other options. But as a man who has one, your view is very much valued.

Mines a diesel, so noise will be different to a petrol. I fitted mine the same time as I blanked the egr valve. Throttle response improved, along with better mpg and less turbo lag. All in all a much smoother drive.

To be fair, most cotton filters are near enough the same performance wise in my experience.

I've had green cotton, itg & bmc on previous cars. All seem pretty good, but I've found K&N to be the best quality. :)
