Fuel Problem?

Featured Replies

After filling up with Tesco petrol in January, I had problems with my Focus hesitating when accelerating and constantly going into limp mode, always whilst the engine was cold. Engine management light came on twice, accelerator pedal sensor, had the pedal replaced, but 2 days before I also filled up with Shell V. Went into limp mode once on way back from garage, then no issues until this week.

Tuesday afternoon, filled up with Asda petrol. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during first 5 minutes on way to work, hesitation when accelerating and eventually into limp mode. Turn ignition on and off, car is fine for the rest of the day.

This was the first time I've used supermarket petrol since the last episode of 'limp mode' only been using Shell or BP 95 and 99 Rons.

Surely this isn't a coincidence! Any ideas, dirty filter or injectors? Must be something specific otherwise they'd be a lot of annoyed Focus drivers that aren't able to use cheaper petrol

Focus Mk2 (57) 1.6 petrol.

My ti vct Hates cheap petrol I only use shell Tesco99 or v power its not coincidence my old mans Kia ceed wasn't right he had hesitation etc lack of power the dealer drained the tank and told him not to use Asda fuel and no problems ever since

Sisters pugeot diesel was the same as was her Renault.

I know people on here will say no difference but there is supermarkets buy from whoever is cheapest which always changes so its never the same fuel somes rubbish with lots of additives son can be decent on my car it states it should be run on premium unleaded super unleaded or premium plus unleaded ...fifth gear tested the fuels and the supermarket fuel came out bottom with cars producing less horsepower than they should

I noticed in mine on cheap fuel it was holding back it wasn't as quick to accelerate and wasn't as happy on decent fuel its like a different car

I've never used Asda petrol, but a lot of people I know have and all have had problems or feel their car under performs when using it. I find with the Ti-vct engine it performs much better when it has Shell regular in compared to supermarket fuel, although I'm yet to try a premium fuel which I was going to try (v-power) on my next fill up. Have always used Sainsburys regular in the past which seemed no different to shell, but I do now notice a different with the Ti-vct engines.

I had to use Asda diesel the other week and it was crap, felt sluggish and a lot more noisy.

Use mostly V power or BP ultimate with a wee dose of 2 stroke and she flys....quietly! :)

Tesco 99 Ron is okay in the ti vct

I work for a petrol station and have to say there is a difference in the fuel. I know people will argue there is no difference as it all comes from the same place. Yes this is true it does all come from the same place but the supermarket gets it before it has all the additives put in that main garages use. I myself run mine on only BP ultimate diesel. Did use supermarket furl in it once and the car really hated it. I also treat her to redex now and then.

I get better mpg better power and a happier car with good quality fuel many breakdown companies will usually fix running issues by telling people to change fuel my old diesel was far noisier and slower on supermarket diesel it still meets the standard like dearer fuels but its not the same
