Focus 1.8Tdci Engine Noise

Featured Replies

Few months ago I bought 06 plate Ford Focus 1.8TDCi. I have gone thought the Instrument Cluster problem in the first few weeks. I have sorted the car out and all seemed to be fine. Since my Focus was back on the road a few days ago I decided to change engine oil, filters and coolant. Everything has been bought from Eurocarpats.

The oil I bought was Valvoline 5W30 Fully-Synthetic. All filters were MANN Filters (premium quality?).

Before I changed the oil the car had an alternator belt tensioner noises and I have been planing to get to that soon. Other than that there were no strange noises.

Soon after I have noticed strange noises coming from the engine that weren't there a few days before. Here is a link to a video were you can hear the sounds which to me don't sound very healthy. I haven't noticed a power loss or smoke coming from the exhaust indicating a problem with the engine.

These engines are prone to Oil Pump failures. Prior to the oil change I had no symptoms of it failing. Fault code scanner gave me two faults: P0489 and P0490. They are EGR related so I assume they can be ruled out.

Could it be a problem with bad quality oil? Oil filter? Oil Pump on it's way out? Any other issues I have missed?

Mann & Hummel filters are premium filters.

Hi justast,

Is this the same noise? My 1.8 TDCI has been doing it over the past couple of days

Have had some problems with diesel pump recently but garage cleared air out of pipes and seems to have fixed it, but RAC came up with EGR valve code also.
