Focus Mk1 Replacement Ignition Barrel

First of I would like to introduce myself as a new memeber, thank you for accepting me. I have a question I hope a member could answer for me, just recently I had to drill out my ignition barrel as the key would not turn at all, after some struggle I finally removed the old unit. I have just been offered a replacement barrel with key removed from a similar model to mine, my question is can I just refit the replacement and just swop over the key fob to the new key, or do I have to have the car re programmed ? Look forword to your help and advice.

    The part that works with the immobiliser is a plastic ring that sits around the ignition barrel so swapping the barrel by itself will not affect the security systems.

    Swapping over the fob will suffice.

    Have you changed the external locks as well?, just thinking in case the fob battery goes and you have to do a manual entry.

    Yes, unless you can acquire a full lock barrel set.

    There are some on ebay afaik.
