CF11
I wonder if you can help, my son owned a Ford Fiesta ST3 for 3 hours 2 weeks ago before it was stolen. It took them 3 minutes to get in it and drive away. He decide against it and is going to order a Zetec S 1.5, I know it probably not so interesting to theives as the ST3,but we dont want to be taking any chances as his insurance will be sky high. Can you recommend a steering lock? or any other think you can think of, I presume it got an OBD port same as Fiesta? Thanks for any advice
johnH
Did the theives have the keys to the car? Being a new car i would be questioning this. All of the other ranges will have the same security as the previous with immobiliser, alarms etc. I seen a program where a fella took 10 seconds to remove a steering wheel lock...no point. Best bet is to get a tracker fitted and have a camera keep an eye on it. The obd2 port is a standard now on all cars
mike6688
Unfortunately any car with the start/stop button is easy to steal using the OBD port. You can see how here: http://www.securemycar.co.uk/Ford-focus-rs-stolen-viper-car-alarm.html Shows a focus RS, but same principle applies to any car with start/stop button rather than a key. SeanW
I saw a TV programme the other night where a chap found the locations for all of the trackers fitted to a Range Rover. Took him a matter of minutes using a mobile phone finder.
shiwarrior
you can get a steering wheel lock, but don't get the cheap ones that just go though the steering wheel, you need the ones that are over £100 these care called "disc lock" and full enclose the steering wheel for harder for thieves sorry to hear about your car been stolen, not nice at all
madmole
£5 small 4.5" cash box, cut small slot for OBD cable in edge covered by lid. Pull port out of mount, stick it in box via new cable hole, lock lid. Viola! protected for £5
madmole
Or in my case, move the OBD port completely (and stick it in a locked box), place a fake one in its place with 12v direct to a selection of pins Not only cant they steal my car, but they have to get a new key replicator

Would love to see the thieves face when he is trying for about an hour to start the car via Obd port only to reliase It's fake lol! I remember back in the day we used to unplug starting wiring on the old escorts as a old security system lol!
madmole
Even better, if you swap the earth and power rails, that will destroy most of the key units instantly
madmole
Here you go, took my £4.50 from eBay solution out from under my dash to photo it for you
Micro
Was debating putting my front parking sensor switch and accessories switch (to get my dash cams to stay on whilst ignition off) in the gap used by the OBD port. I've got a proper key ignition barrel but what the hell eh? :D

Micro
Love the idea, but is 12V enough, surely 240v a/c would better? 12v more readily available on a car ;)Sent from my Nexus 4 using Ford OC mobile app
madmole
12v@80amps is far more powerful than 230v@3amps that most convertors run to, Mine is fused at 5amps anyway cos the wires to the obd port are too thin to handle much
