Need To Get My Car Ready For Mot

Featured Replies

So I have stripped out my Focus but now need to get it read for its MOT. I have taken all the panels and seats and seatbelts out from behind the A-pillar. And kept everything as normal infront of the A-pillar. But now I need to get it read for its MOT in a few months.
I have been told that I need to fireproof all the wiring but wondered if just putting electrical tape around it all would do? What else do I need to do? Thanks in advance.

Who told you to Fire proof the wiring? and Why? having a plastic cover or a seat in the way never made it fireproof in the first place, how on earth would an MOT tester test it without setting fire to the car?

Best thing to do to a mk1, set it on fire! Lol

My friend who works in a BMW garage.

What does he do, sweep the floor at BMW?

Tell him to have a look at all the wiring thats hidden behind the dash or in the engine bay... ask him if thats fireproof

Seriously though, if it were mine - I would be wanting some kind of mechanical protection for the wiring.

So are there no actual legal requirements? Can I just leave the car like this: 11149447_834661543282886_766996363424448

There is nothing wrong with that, tell your "mate" he's a flid and doesn't know what he's talking about, no care is fireproof and tbh shielding for wires that is "fire" proof would cost and absolute fortune, not required at all. probably just trolling you.

Oh right haha Thanks.

As long as all wiring is secure and no bare wires its fine, although if you put the rear seats back in you will need to retest, as the seat belts and seats have to be checked to make sure they are secure and function as intended, the insulation that is on the wiring is fire proofing as it stops them earthing, I used to work in a testing station and undertook my exams but decided too much hassle for my liking so decided against testing
