Air Con Problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

I bought a 53 plate Focus in November 2014 and just realized today that the air con is not working. Obviously I haven't used it until now since it has been a bit cold.

I rang the dealer that I bought it from and told him that obviously they sold me the car with a faulty AC unit and I want it to be covered under warranty. He told me that it depends what is wrong with it and I still might have to pay for it. I think this is complete nonsense, this is the first time I tried using AC so in my opinion it wasn't working at the time of sale. I also told them that there is a really annoying dashboard rattle that needs fixing ( it was there since I bought it but didn't have time to take it in). Are rattles normally covered by the warranty? The only reason I bought almost a brand new car so I wouldn't have to pay for repairs. Also I do understand that not everything is covered and some things are just wear and tear.

Any advise on this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

is it a 53 plate or a 63 plate?

First you should find out what the problem with the AC is, if it has run out of gas or there is a leak somewhere or mechanical/electrical problem causing no AC

im not sure about the rattles, i've heard of warranty's on rattles but you should also get that checked to find the exact location of the rattle

63 plate sorry

To be fair you should use the air on all year round even when you have the heater on hot so after all these months of not using it you've lost the warranty period so the garage doesn't have to pay for it in afraid not using the air on for long periods can cause it to fail and cease .....it may just need a simple regas though you should get a few years out of it even using it every day so if it is faulty they will likely lay the blame on you not using it

i use aircon all year round, misted up windows when cold and damp, and obviously when in warm weather..as for your cars warranty then air con is covered ,mecahical or electrical will be covered , not sure on gas, think gas recharge once in warranty ok

my betting is gas is low,im told ford only put the minimum in to make it work and not the full amount recomended, saves a few pence per car . lol so if a little seeps out then it stops working

dashboard rattle is unusual on mk3 focus, where abouts you think its coming from?

The rattle is coming somewhere from the glove compartment, if the passenger pushes it in it stops, but its not the door of the compartment as it still rattles when you open it, it gets really loud sometimes and it is annoying, I have nothing inside there at all so must be the dashboard.

Just a quick question, the 3 year ford warranty is it all manufacturers or split manufacturers and dealers?

1st year is ford base warranty, then next 2 years is ford protect classic plan warranty, dont ask me what difference is, lol,

1st covers practically everything excluding wear & tear, 2nd & 3rd covers '' limited items ''

Don't know how true it is, but I was told a few years back to use air con for 20 minutes a month as it keeps the seals lubricated?

It was true - not sure if it's still fact ?

True
