Cleaning Flip Keys

Featured Replies

Dear all,

I would like to clean the flip case and key of my new ford Fiesta keys. It was bought second hand and the keys are a bit cruddy and yellow where the little icon should be white I was wondering, is there an effective way to clean them? because I'm worried about getting them wet and having to pay 200quid for new ones?

Take them apart and pop out the battery and chip. Then go to town on it. It may be easier just to replace the logo though? They're about £2 from eBay iirc.

Thanks ifoundmyalloys :)

Hi Rob, I'm assuming you've collected your new car by now? I'm on my third Fiesta since 2010 and they are a great car to own and drive so, I hope everything is ok and that you are enjoying driving it? :)

Yep awesome but doing the Bluetooth and USB update is taking over an hour! Think something has gone wrong with it?

Anti-bac wipes are good for keys, not wet enough to cause any internal damage either.

Or you could do what I did with my last cars key...leave it in your pocket in the washing machine... It did still work with a new battery and bit of drying out tbf!

Hi Rob

I'm so pleased that you are liking your new Fiesta. :)

With regard to the Bluetooth update, is that the update from the Ford website?

If so, then you need to download the update (English) and transfer it to a USB stick and then insert it into the USB slot in the car and it should take no more than about 20 minutes.

I can't remember the finer details of the update procedure but there is a video available and one of our FOC senior members called iNath could point you in the right direction.

I've found the update website and iNaths youtube video:
