Tuning Boxes

Featured Replies

Well lads

Started a topic on this in the Mondeo section but the Focus section seems to have far more activity and the topic can apply here too.

Having the 2.0 TDCI 140bhp which I think is a fantastic engine but I can never keep my cars standard and so am looking for more power in particular more low down torque/ boost coming in earlier. My previous car a 1.6 TDCI had a remap but I like the idea of a tuning box in regards of been able to remove it if needs be.

I had always been of the opinion that tuning boxes were bad and remaps were good but talking to a few people lately who have tried tuning boxes on various cars seemed quite impressed with them.

I know obviously there is a large variety meaning some tuning boxes could be quite good and others absolutely sh*t but the same can be said for a good remap vs getting a remap of someone with little experience in the area.

I have also heard that often tuning boxes can actually be better for low down torque than a remap.

The box in particular I was lookng at was manufactured by Bluespark Automotive http://www.bluesparkautomotive.com/carspecs2?carid=1853

Overall I just wanted to gather a few opinions and thoughts of what people thought of these type of units.

personally i would go for a proper remap, such as a Superchips Bluefin, Celtic Tuning etc, the good thing about the Bluefin is you can load back your standard map if needed

looking at bluefin or celtic tuning myself, after i get my injectors tested/replaced as they are not 100% at the moment

Bluefin would be a great happy medium between the two as would be a remap and can remove it myself if needed but I think they're way overpriced. I could get a custom remap for €200 in comparison from the likes of MFK remapping.

I was just interested to see if anyone had tried any themselves or had much knowledge on them. I know half of those tuning boxes are just resistors that trick the the maf sensor etc and use over fueling to increase power but the Bluespark ones "claim" to be more than that.

Also the bluespark ones seem to have different settings which you can adjust depending on what your looking for i.e outright power, economy, low down torque etc
