jcs95whufc
Hi All, Started my car this morning and a message popped up saying "Key battery low, replace soon". My car is going in for service on Monday, can they just simply do this, but will I be billed for this? cheers James
mjt
Many garages will routinely change the key battery as part of the service. They will bill you for the price of the battery. You might be able to buy a battery more cheaply and fit it yourself but for the sake of a few pence it's probably not worth the hassle. TomsFocus
Is the car only a year old? The battery should last a lot longer than that. It is quick and easy to change fob batteries though if it is low so won't cost much even if you do have to pay.
MONDEO TXS 2.2
CR2032 battery iirc.
jcs95whufc
That's cr*p lol. I finance it from my local ford dealership and I pay for the service plan! I would of though this would of been covered by the warranty????
MONDEO TXS 2.2
It's a consumable - just like oil & filters & brake pads e.t.c.
TomsFocus
Yep, exactly as above, warranty only covers things that aren't designed to wear out unfortunately, you still have to pay for consumables. service plan MAY include a battery change if its on the service schedule for your car, I doubt it would be though. Guest
my cars 6 years old and has at least one if not both of the original batteries, my Peugeot before lasted 12 years and still worked (just) when I traded it in. You may have a short or something pressing the buttons perhaps? I know Citroen remotes can develop always on shorts.
jcs95whufc
could possibly be where I was messing around with the key the other day...as I have press to start, I wanted to find out where the actual key was and how I get it....probably didn't push the key back together again properly. I have had the car 9 months??? on the other hand - similar circumstance, my speaker is crackling, I assume this wouldn't be covered in warranty either then???? jcs95whufc
Wont ask the dealer about this then they'll probably charge me an arm and a leg to do it!

Stoney871
10 or so CR2032's for £1 in the pound shop. You'll need all ten as they are cheap tat.Buy a Duracell one, it's pricier but lasts far longer. I always say 'buy cheap - buy twice'.
madmole
Also once you have changed it, use the plipper to lock and unlock the doors, that will clear the battery message
Hassen
My key fob has been on the fritz as well and I suspect the battery is on the way out.
