Dog Guard Fitting, Mk 1 Estate.

Featured Replies

Hi, new member here and looking for help.....

We have recently purchased a Mk 1, LX TDCi estate, 83k, full Ford service history and touch wood, nothing serious to worry about. However, we have picked up a dog guard which is supposed to be a genuine Ford fitment. Ok, the bottom fittings bolt / clamp nicely into the luggage tie down slots, but the top fittings line up with the plastic window surround on the posts by the rear seat where there is no fitting position. It looks as though there should be a captive nut there to receive the fixings but there is nothing visible.

Is there anything behind the trim to be found? I don't want to start drilling holes if I don't know what's there.....

Can anyone shed some light on this, I don't want one of those telescopic jobbies or a cage...

I believe the bottom brackets go under the seat hinges and bolt down between the hinge and car body.

Hi Clive, thanks for your quick response. The bottom mounts definitely fit into the tie down slots, they have a small recess to allow it. I've fitted it with just those, but it is not secure. There is a mounting hole in each of the 'wings', two spacers and a pair of bolts but nowhere for them to fit...

I know on some cars (Kia for one) that their estate models have a keyhole shaped slot for mounting grilles and seperators.

have you thought of fitting a long bolt on each side and using a rubber door stop on the end of the bolts to brace against the window frames?

That's an interesting idea! I will look into it. Thanks.
