Completely Ot - Planning Control

Featured Replies

Right, I need a new fence around our property and to the rear I want to raise the fence to 7ft, being next to a road (duh isn't everyone?) I need planning permission, the plans went in last week and the final drawings today

Currently we have a hedge with a chain link fence 'attached', so recently I've been breaking my back felling the hedge on our land (not conservation area so we're allowed to), hedge is 3m tall in places and ivy growth has taken over half the footpath

How long roughly is it usually for plans to be approved? And what's the possibility do you think of the plans and drawings being approved? As said were not in a conservation area, and we're in a cul-de-sac, corner plot bungalow, the other two corners have 6ft brick walls

It boils down to if your neighbours suck. I used to deal with the maps for planning permission, one family wanted to erect a 7 foot fence around their garden, as their Asperger child ran out during a kick off and got hit by a car. It was initially refused, as neighbours used their drive illegally as a turn around spot, and one complained. I have found that some go through almost immediately, but on average around here it is 6 weeks. I don't know what the local authority is like where you are but around here they are dim-witted and half the staff have no idea about planning permission, or in fact how to tie their shoes. I have seen more than my fair share kicked back because one desk jockey told them to fill out the wrong forms, supplied wrong maps, and so forth.

I have just realised I am not helping, go with 6 weeks. If you haven't heard back have a word in their shell-like.

Many thanks, hopefully the neighbours will be ok with it considering none of it should have any effect on their property, we're a corner plot so luckily just the one neighbour :d

What concerns me most of all is privacy, we're on the end as people come into the road, and boom everyone and their dog looks straight over our existing fence / hedges, not only that there's a real danger of our dog getting out when she figures out she can easily span the existing fence / hedge - luckily at the moment she's a bit thick

Work has started with a vengeance now, so it'll be a real let down if we get refused, luckily again everyone we've spoken to about the project has said that's a good idea, and appreciate the enormous task my husband and I are undertaking in sorting it all out

  • 2 weeks later...

There wouldnt be any problems with a 6ft fence that doesnt extend past the front of your property. Then, that should only be 3ft high from the front edge of the house to front boundry line.

Well, how can I put this

We've now fallen out with our neighbours, after they went from being completely ok with the plans to putting in an objection  and I quote / start whine 'it's too high' end whine..

Thankfully planning saw them as being self centred idiots, and passed our plans! HA!

good news

my dads neighbours are also throwing a hissy fit.

all he wants to do is improve the look of his garage and get it rendered but as his garage is at the bottom of their house they wont allow the builders to come into their property.

now they are claiming my dad stole that land to build a garage...dad purchased it in 88 and they moved in in the late 90's!

thankfully the land registry has plans to show my dad owns the land legally! the nighbours just dont like anyone making any improvements and even had a go at builders working opposite...i wonder if their loft bedroom has the correct planning approval....
