Whirring, Whining Noise. At Idle And In Lower Gears.

Featured Replies

Hi, new to the forum, which seems great. After a little help or advice please.

Bought a fiesta style+ 09 plate, 1 previous owner from new fully serviced with 39000 miles on it last week from Benfield. It's my first ever car as I have just passed my test. Even though the car was serviced and mot'd with a 160 point checklist, Upon picking the car up their is a noticeable whine when pulling away in 1st gear and into 2nd like a milk float noise or as if the car sounds like it's in reverse. When I parked the car on the drive and letting it idle in neutral, you can still here a whirring sound, but if you press the clutch in the whirring completely stops, release the clutch again and it's there. Also within two days one of the front end springs snapped.

I have already had it back to the dealer who said they checked the gearbox and have fitted a new clutch and done the springs. They road tested it again and handed it back but the whirring in the lower gears and at idle is still there. It's going back in today for them to listen again but I just have no confidence in the car now and seriously thinking of taking up the 30 day no quibble exchange. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Possibly gearbox bearings? Or Clutch release bearing? (Shouldve been replaced with the clutch)

Took the car back, A master technician took the car out with me. Told me it's a normal fiesta noise. He said they are the old fiesta gearboxes and are solid. He said everything even the whirring in 1st and 2nd is normal. When we got back to the garage he took me out in a brand new courtesy car with 115 mile on the clock and it did seem to sound the same maybe not as loud. He offered me to pick another car for the same noise for total peace of mind.

The 30 day exchange is fast approaching and really in two minds what to do.

fiesta box not the quietest , but if your not happy, just have another one, but road test that one also so you know what your expecting.

My 1.4 titanium is quiet noisy same noise as urs from first into second gear drives fine tho hasnt got worse not sure if its normal tho but seems ok
