Don't Think The Back Wiper Works

Featured Replies

Or not right, you're supposed to pull it towards you....mine doesn't, it's as if it's not supposed to but I know it should

I guess I thought after 40 views someone would know as plenty have them

So I take it your rear wiper is not working at all?

Check the wires in the rubber sleeve between the roof and hatch, they can snap and short out.

Sorry I meant to stalk won't pull/click back

For rear wiper to wash rear window is push button in. The get it to wipe when raining its pull forward. To deactivate its push back.

  • Author

It doesn't, when I press the end in the front window get scooshed

I take it clicks when pulled back, mine doesn't in fact doesn't move back or forward at all

Then if I had to guess, it has either had a different stalk fitted or something is stuck/broke in the mechanism

Take a picture of the stalk that you are having issues with. Stalks don't normally break and last with the life of the car. Unless beaten on. Take picture then we can tell you if it is actually the Ford part, or aftermarket.

I'm sure it'll be original, I'll get one later

This is mine

I guess no one else knows about this...I'm surprised or an I the only one with a mk1

It's pull toward you once. If you continue to pull forward the front window gets washed. It's 1 clip towards you and rear wiper is on.

Again, patience chap. So, just for clarification, you can move the stalk up, down, but it doesn't pull towards the driver, which of it is like the mk2, would activate the rear wiper wash, or push away from the driver to make rear wipers come on? Just trying to figure out the operation procedure, I last drove a mk1 about 5 years ago.

Does the stalk have any markings on the top?

It is hard sometimes to diagnose a fault online without physically seeing the car, I will try to help where I can though.

It's pull forward one click to activate rear wiper. Pull forward again and front jets. To cancel rear wiper push away.

Not on mine it doesn't as i said above

You press it at the end to swoosh the front window...there's no "click" when pulling towards or away from you I does nothing so I guess it's fkd

Sorry....I'm just used to fast moving forums

Yes, moves up and down but no towards or away movement at all

Again as said above...not on mine, I wish I could get a vid, well I can but not sure it'd upload

I am guessing that you either have a saloon's stalk fitted by a numpty, or it is broken.

Never thought of that, it's probably broke though

It's pull toward you once. If you continue to pull forward the front window gets washed. It's 1 clip towards you and rear wiper is on.

That's wrong! Pull forward to first position to switch on the intermittent rear wiper. Pull further to wash the REAR screen and the rear wiper runs continuously for a few wipes. Press the button on the end of the stalk to wash the FRONT screen with the front wipers running continuously for a few wipes.

As already said, mine doesn't work like that (well the button on the end scooshes the front but that's it) so as GK said it's either for a saloon or broke probably the latter but won't know till there's another one on

That is the way of it unfortunately, if it doesn't move in the way it should then it is most likely the fault. Just a spot of bad luck, I'd rather a dodgy wiper stalk than a more serious problem with a car!
