Android Head Unit

Featured Replies

Hi There,

I've just purchased a early 2007 focus and eagerly looking forward to picking it up friday!

This has the square 6000 CD head unit it at present (not the nice curvy one)

I'm looking to purchase the following head unit

Pumpkin Pure Android 4.4 Kitkat Two Din Universal Car DVD Player Stereo GPS Navigation with 6.2

I know there is a specific focus version which is of the curved variety to match the mk 2.5 stereo, my question is would i be able to just install the above into mine or will i need some extra adapters to fit the wiring and or the stalk controls.

Thanks

Damn yous, I like that unit. Now I need to see if there is a curvy version...

It comes with all the wiring needed by the looks of it, there are people who have guides to fitting the Eonon unit which I would guess is similar so have a looksie there and it may help.

There is a curvy version on there for, for a much more inflated price which makes me wonder if there is some special wiring adapter required given the price hike?

To further this,

if anyone could provide a quick run down of all the general connections required a head unit as i'm struggling to decipher them all.

is the wiring adapter the canbus?

does the above cover the stalk controls aswell or is that another cable?

Based on the ad you will need to get a wiring adaptor that converts it from the original connector to the iso connector.

The steering wheel controls tap into the wires that come from the stalk unless you find a adaptor with can bus so the cables be easier to Analog signal as that is what the CD player uses.

So best to find a complete adaptor with the steering wheel controls that output a analogue signal. How it goes into the CD player is a mystery. Maybe a ground and 2 other data cable or even like on Pioneer it has to be connected via a 3.5mm headphone jack.

It's a very good player. Has capasitive screen so will work better then older units. Has a WiFi hotspot, so get a 3g/4g internet plan a and you can share internet connection to anyone in the car. You have Bluetooth so you can also connect your obd.

Any issues load up app read codes.

Thanks for the reply,

based on all the extras needed above, do you think i would be better looking at something pre packaged for the focus, i.e. http://www.autopumpkin.com/car-dvd-players/ford-dvd-player/pure-android-4-4-in-dash-car-dvd-radio-stereo-player-7-inch-hd-capacitive-touch-screen-for-ford-with-3g-wifi-obd2-dvr-free-8gb-sd-card-1080p.html

or would it be cheaper to get the cheaper head unit and source the connectors myself?

With players that are already set up for Ford they are easier to install, as come with everything required. Like the player you just sent has the can bus box and all the correct connectors for your car. Guessing it's a MK1.

Players that fit in any car, you can use for life, if you ever change car. However to install they can be a headache. And you spend a lot of time setting it up.

But some people like that so totally up to you. I have Pioneer unit where I had to get the loom separate but everything was on the loom to make it easier.

That CD player won't fit into your car unless you have MK1 I think. The MK2 use a block connecter.

I will have the MK2 with the square radio rather than the curved MK 2.5 version.

how does this effect the above block connector?

MK2 come with block connector.

The mk 2 version isn't quite as detailed as the mk2.5 version unfortunately. however it does seem that the mk2 and the mk 2.5 stereo are just cosmetically different not wiring different. which is a help to know

Unfortunately you're advice is a little over my head, i'm not too great on new subjects till i've been hands on!

from what i've gathered so far,
  • the ISO unit is to convert the block of wires going into back into the existing stereo into a configuration for the new head unit?
  • the stalk controls need to go into a canbus to convert them from a digital to analog signal for the new stereo?
