Newbie With Parking Sensor Questions!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have just purchased my first ever focus. It's a 2008 2.0 CDTI Titanium and I have to say I am in LOVE!!

I have had it about a week now and I have started to have some problems with the parking sensors. They worked fine when I first got the car but now it has stopped working.

Every time I put the car into reverse I get a long beep for about 5 secs and then nothing else (this resulted in me reversing into a fence!). I have worked out that it is the sensor on the drivers side that isn't working as it's not doing that pulsing noise when you go near it. To see if it is the wiring I wanted to switch it with one of the others but I can't seem to get any of them out of bumper. I can disconnect the wires from them but can't remove them from the bumper.

Any body tell me how I go about doing this?

Thanks in advance! :)

The parking sensors are clipped into the rear bumper. It should be possible to unclip the parking sensors from behind the bumper but because of the tight space this can be a pain in the !Removed!. in some cases it may even be necessary te remove the rear bumper to have enough space to unclip the sensors.

Thanks, I've managed to get under the car and can see the round clip. I have pulled the 2 sides of the clip outwards but nothing seems to move. Which way do they pull out? towards the car or away from the car?

The sensors come out from the back and the fitting surrounds come out forwards.

I had exact same problem just one of the sensors were faulty if you put it in reverse with second stage ignition on get down on all fours ,yes seriously , healthy sensors usually make a ticking noise and the defunct one will be silent ...... Yes I thought it was a crock too but actually it worked ordered a sensor from ford ...came painted too easy to fit no need to remove bumper can do it in situ ...

Had another go at pulling the sensor out but still no luck. Which way should I be pulling the sensor? Into the car or away from the car?

Jizzer, do you mind telling how much it cost for a new one?

The sensor was around 25 to 30 Quid;

if you ring your local ford parts dept and give your reg number they will give you a price i was suprised when it came colour coded as i was told it would be primed and i would have to paint it so maybe there are 2 part numbers one primed and one painted.

similar to this,,, ps sensor come out from REAR of bumper ie on your back under car pull toward front of car

I pulled mine inwards towards the back seats. We're stiff but came . If you're like you worry about breaking it!
