wayne.m
Hi all, I've got a 2004 2.0ltr petrol focus zetec with 85000 miles on the clock. In the morning and after work I find it kicks out blue smoke for about 30-60 seconds, now I have read elsewhere that this could be valve seals leaking when the engine is off for a fair amount of time then when the engine is started the oil gets burnt hence the blue smoke. Can anyone elaborate on this or maybe clarify it for me? Also has anyone experienced this and maybe had it fixed. Thanks for input in advance. DieselPig
Probably is the valve seals, my old Fiesta and Cortina did the same for years with no harm. You can do it yourself if your handy with the spanners.
wayne.m
Thanks mate, yes I'm not too bad with spanners, just need to find some sort of guide or something like that.
stef123
I done a repair on an engine last year. Worn valve stem seal resulting in blue smoke on start up after sitting for a period. The problem was ignored and later turned into a burnt valve - once stripped down it was quite obvious the burnt valve was the one leaking oil too. I haven't seen any guides for this but I dare say a Haynes manual will cover it.
wayne.m
Yes it only seems to do it when it's been stood for quite a few hours, I want to get it sorted before it gets worse and causes more damage. And of course no endless pit of money here, if it's possible I can do it myself I will give it ago. Just out of curiosity I don't suppose anyone has a figure as to how much a garage may charge for this?
