The Clutch on my week old Focus 1.6 Zetec 2009 bites at the top of the pedal. It works well and gear changes are very smooth, is this normal?.

    yep, don't worry they all seem to be.

    The time to worry is when it bites near floor, that's an indication its wearing out, the gears start to crunch then. Usually more noticeable on reverse first of all as that has no synchromesh. Also 1st gear becomes difficult not select from a stand still.

    I used to test warranty returns for a clutch manufacturer back in the 80s ( Laycock& LuK ), I used to see all manner of clutch faults! A worryingly high proportion caused by slipshod fitting errors!
