Something Has Popped ??

Featured Replies

Hello all Ive wanted to get involved with this club for ages and now I have the perfect oppurtunity as my car has broken and I have to wait until Tuesday re the Bank Holiday to get a Diagnosis!!!!!!!!!!!

And Ive heard all the members on this site are so helpful and knowledgable that you may be able to give me some ideas as to whats wrong with my car.

So story goes drove to Scotland Friday am 150 miles then returned Sat am another 150 miles..... got about half a mile away from my home and a loud popping small explosion occured from below the engine area ???? My dad said it sound like wed driven over a glass bottle it was really strange tut tut

Instantly my car lost most of its power and i crawled home in it with an horrendus amount of black smoke coming from the exhaust.

Car is 2007 1.8 tdci estate with a 160k on it car has been great up until now had it 2 years ????

I am thinking Turbo problem any advices or experince from you wonderful lot whilst I wait for Tuesday would be kindly appreciated

:) First of all welcome, if you have got any breakdown cover call them out they may be able to give you a diagnosis, if not do you know sum1 with personal b/down cover which covers them in any vehicle ;) they may be able to use there b/down company, but it does sound turbo like, but im no mechanic hope u get it sorted ;)

It sounds like you've just blown a turbo hose (imagine a thick balloon popping, was that the noise?).

If you're unlucky, it may be the turbo itself but I don't think so in this case.

I agree with Tom, from the description it sounds like a blown pipe, maybe even as simple as blown off at a connection to the intercooler, had a clip give up on me before took a whole minute to sort

If it was the turbo itself it would bellow white smoke and you wouldn't of been able to drive it very far without it running on the engine oil and going bang sounds plausible that a hose might of gone though

Yeah It was the strangest noise just like a balloon popping, so touch wood your suggestion is right Tom

Thanks Pink and Steads am hoping its just a pipe then as the car accelarated fine coming home from scotland and ive had no turbo issues leading up to this point...

I would check the intercooler hose for splits and oily spots.

Look at the large rubber/metal hose on the drivers side of the engine.
