Heavy / Springy Clutch Focus 1.6 (115) 2006

Featured Replies

HI All,

New to the forum. I've bought a 2006 Focus LX 1.6 (115) for my wife (or maybe brother). I've not got it on the road yet. The clutch seems a little strange. While not overly heavy, it's heavier than normal. The main issue is that it is quite springy so when trying to bite, it pushes back quite hard. It feels like a cable clutch instead of hydraulic.

Is it a failing clutch? I've sprayed the return spring with WD40 however I didn't expect this to make much difference. There's no slipping and the clutch isn't high.

Kind Regards,

P.S Forgot to add. I've checked 3 other MK2 Focus' which were all lighter. 2x 1.6TDCI & 1x 1.6 Ghia 115 (same engine).

Certainly sounds like the clutch slave cylinders on its way out so a new clutch as well the 115bhp is a ti vct engine ...my clutch went no slipping no noises went to go from 2nd to 3rd clutch went ford said it literally fell apart so IDE have it properly diagnosed....one thing you can do is check the brake fluid resevoir as tho feeds the clutch

Thanks for this artscot79. I feared it would be the slave cylinder or clutch itself. The reservoir is at the correct level. I've not yet decided if I'm keeping yet either.
