Codes Elm327 Meaning

Featured Replies

got a code , p170a clutch switch out self test range ? what does this mean please .....1.8 petrol duratec engine

also noticed the clutch as gone abit soft ,and my revs are hanging more and mpg has gone down more

Well it looks as if theres a problem with the clutch switch then.

If you didn't know, it helps the ECU to match the revs during gearchanges.

It could be that it's just fallen out of place slightly, or that the sensor is knackered.

changed it made no difference to the revs ?

Have you cleared the fault code? And it hasn't come back?

  • Author

i fitted it and scanned didnt show up ,so thought that was job done , ill have a check tomorrow ,so complicated lol

Ah ok, if it didn't show up it cleared itself.

Odd that the revs still hang though, maybe another issue there but without another code or any more info can't really say.

yes wish it would pop up with 10 codes rather than none, thinking it must be a split pipe as this asnt cured it , ill have a potter around tomorrow ,then its of to the garage ££££££ thanks for your replies

Yeah I was thinking a vacuum leak but that should bring up a fault code unless it's a tiny pinhole leak...and if that's the case good luck finding it!

Also you mentioned the clutch getting softer, is it soft or is it spongy? There may be air in the hydraulics. That won't have any effect on the revs though.

pedal seems ok now, the problem i have is finding diagrams of the intake pipes ,and breather pipes cant find nothing for 1.8 petrol and haynes manuals aint nothing like they use to be

just checked and the code is still there, cant seem to delete it, im using forscan ? any ideas

Might i add was checking PCM with engine turned on but not running.

When I did it with engine running it threw up P1116 and P1127 but no clutch switch .think I'm going to spend some £ and let someone else look at it

if you dont have cruise control then I wouldnt worry.

This error code sounds like the switch is just reporting a high or open circuit. If you had cruise control, it means cruise wouldnt work properly. But if you dont have it, and the car isnt behaving badly, then I would just let the error code rot :)
