Aircon

Featured Replies

I've searched but can't find a topic that's any help.

Basically, my Aircon is rubbish. In both my previous cars ( mk2 and 2.5) the aircon was brilliant. Blew a gale and really cooled me down. My Mark 3 is a real disappointment, unless I'm doing something wrong. I can barely feel it through the vents

Anyone have any suggestions?

If you take it to a fast fit centre they usually run an offer that if they re-gas it and its not colder than when you drove in then you dont pay. Might be worth a try. I had a stone hit my condenser puncturing it so it lost all the gas on my cmax.

It's also worth checking/renewing your cabin filter as if it's blocked up it could reduce air flow from the vents as well.

Had similar problem with mine the other week, dealers regas which worked for a week but then stopped again.

Problem was identified as being broken condenser unit, once replaced car is now like a freezer.

I believe location of condenser is not best.

Is there anyway to test the ac system before a regas to Check for leaks or broken components?

Also how much is a regas?

Are those home diy halfords regas/top up kits any good?

The only way to do a proper check is to hook one of those A/c re-gas systems on.

also stay away from the air con top up bottles, it will cause more issues than it can solve. the AC system needs to have the correct amount of gas to what the system on the car needs. the re-fill cans just fill up until the can is empty.

Depends on the garage you go to, could be around £20-50 so its not as much as you think, and if they detect a leak they usually wont charge you

Thanks.

In thought those small top up kits did not look great. I might pop down to local Ford when the weather picks up to get mine looked at. It's not as cold as it used to be when turned on so maybe just needs topped up.

Halfords are currently offering a FREE air con check.

Recharge at halfords is £49, same price at kwikfit - I would try local garages for the recharge as usually cheaper.

Maybe local ford dealer will price match?
