This morning while driving my 2008 2.0tdci had power steering malfunction come up on the Dash along with the battery light I've had a look and the belts still on and the power steering is working ok. Possibly alternator any help appreciated I've had to leave it and get the motorbike out for work lol

When my battery & alternator were on their way out I would often get the PAS system turning itself off as it wasn't getting enough power. At the time I knew my 9 year old battery was on it's last legs but only got around to replacing it when it conked out at the top of my street at 5 in the morning, lol.

If the battery light is showing around the time the PAS erro displays then I'd say it's time to check the alternator output under load & the battery.

Cheers Damian gonna check it out when I get finished work tonight hoped it was just the belt feeling is for the alternator tho.

The alternator & battery themselves might be perfectly okay, it might just be the pulley isn't providing enough tension on the belt to drive the alternator at it's full speed.

Right plugged the car into the laptop using forscan it shows that it's still charging and when rev'd showing about 14.5v checked for dtcs and it's coming up with po625 generator field terminal circuit low and when I reset the dtc the battery warning light goes out only to come back on a few seconds later so I'm assuming the alternators goosed also when taking it off even tho the car hadn't been running very long the alternator was very hot ? Any other ideas most welcome.

Either alternator goosed as you say or the wiring broken in the loom somewhere, check the connector at alternator to see if wiring ok there, you got intermittant charging by the sound of it.

Not sure if its the same problem as Kev's but I've had an issue with my 2.0 TDCi for years now. It happens first thing in the morning and I get the steering assist fail message when I turn the ignition on. It only happens when the car has been parked outside and there has been lots of moisture in the air. I think there is a bad contact somewhere and the system isn't powering up quick enough. I turn the key back to off and then on again.... the caption goes and everything works as it should. This first happened about 8 years ago when the car was only 2 years old. Ford couldn't find anything wrong and the fault stayed away until 2 years ago when it started to play up again, only when the car is covered in condensation.
